Obituary
Lakeview- Dora Evelyn (Smith) Herald, age 92, of Stanton, passed away on March 6, 2018, at her home with family by her side. Dora was born March 12, 1925 in Sheridan, the daughter of Ralph and Annie Smith. She was raised in the Stanton and Sheridan areas and attended the Frost Country School. She married James “Jim” Michael Herald on October 3, 1942 in Stanton. Jim was drafted shortly thereafter on December 15, 1942 at the beginning of WWII. Dora worked as a bakery clerk for Lyle’s Bakery in Stanton and Jorgensens. She loved her large garden, and canned fruits and vegetables. Dora loved to bake chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter fudge for family and friends. She loved the country life, especially enjoying watching the deer and turkeys, and hummingbirds. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Sheridan.
Dora will be deeply missed by her daughter Debra (Patrick) Conroy of Fenwick; grandchildren Heidi (Herb) Grant, Holly (Mark) Hotchkiss-Roth, Michael (Terri Klink-) Hotchkiss, Joel (Lisa) Herald, Thomas (Jillian) Kutzli, Ned (Autumn) Kutzli; great-grandchildren Trevor Hunt, Alex (Cynthia) Maxted, Sydnee Alexander, Mitchell Alexander, Demetrius Kutzli, Landyn Dempsey, Collin Kutzli, Grayson Kutzli, Noah Kutzli, and Elliot Kutzli; a special family friend to both Jim and Dora was John Bookwalter who was dearly loved by them both; another special family friend was Laura Babcock; and several loved nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Herald in 1993, parents Ralph and Annie Smith, one daughter Sandra Herald, and two siblings Dorothy Shinabarger, and Preston Smith.
Private (Family only) Funeral Services for Dora will be held at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Those wishing to contribute in Dora’s memory are asked to consider the wishes of the family c/o Montcalm County Commission on Aging.
