Obituary for Robert Clare Prentice

Robert Clare Prentice, age 68, of Sparta formerly of Six Lakes, passed away unexpectedly at his home May 4, 2018. He was born on December 2, 1949, in Kalkaska the son of Sherman and Eva (McCall) Prentice. Robert was raised in Kalkaska and attended Kalkaska Public Schools.
At age eighteen, Robert served his country honorably in the army for four years in Vietnam. Upon his discharge, he went on to serve another four years with the Army National Guard. He was a butcher at the IGA in Six Lakes when he met Debora, who he married on April 27, 1974, at Faith United Methodist Church in Edmore. Robert continued his education at Montcalm Community College earning a Construction Degree. Robert started Prentice Construction at which he ran over forty years, never really retiring.
Robert was known by friends and family for his wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking; especially building decorative boxes, and mushrooming in Spring. He loved animals, and even hung Christmas lights in the woods, because he thought deer needed Christmas too.
Robert will be missed by his loving wife of forty-four years Debora Lee Prentice of Sparta; children Amy Prentice of Louisville, Kentucky, and Andrew Prentice of Sparta; special pets Oscar and Minnie; two grand-dogs Ragnar and Dexter; grand-kitty Boots; two brothers Leroy (Nancy) Prentice of Saint Helen, and Tom (Allison) Prentice of Tennessee; brother-in-laws Dennis Raglin of Stanton, and Marty Raglin of Colorado; sister-in-law Kathy (Steve) Moore of Wayland; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Robert will be met in heaven by his parents Sherman and Eva Prentice.
A Celebration of Robert’s life will take place on Friday, May 11, 2018, from 1pm-3pm at Lakeview Free Methodist Church, with Pastor Ted Johnson officiating. A luncheon will be immediately following the service at the church. Those wishing to contribute in Robert’s memory are asked to consider either the Humane Society or Hospice of your choice.
