Obituary

Edmore – Otto H. Buchholz, age 85, of Stanton, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Otto was born September 8, 1932 at home in Stanton, the son of Fredrick Robert Paul and Mary Mae (Crawford) Buchholz. Otto was raised in Stanton and attended Frost and Stanton High School.
Otto served his country honorably during the Korean War, in the U.S. Army, as a CPL from 1953 until 1954. He was onsite at the signing of the Armistice. Otto married Marion Rae Hardman on February 28, 1959 at the Congregational Church of Christ in Vestaburg, MI. Otto was employed as a construction carpenter and painter by his brother-in-law, Thorval Nielsen of Nielsen Construction in Cedar Springs, MI until his retirement in 2005.
Otto enjoyed fishing everyday and giving fish to friends. He loved animals, especially Labs, and animals loved him. Everyday, Otto would sit with his beloved wife Marion at Laurels of Carson City. He attended the Frost Seventh Day Adventist Church in Stanton, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lester J. Sitts Post, in Sheridan, MI.
Otto will be missed by his wife Marion Buchholz of Carson City (formerly of Stanton); two children, Lynda Jeanne (Scott) North of Stanton, and Terrance Lynn (Jill) Buchholz of Cleveland, TN; four grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Buchholz, Alec Gregory North, Nicholas Evan Buchholz, and Anya Noelle Buchholz; great-granddaughter Ava “Punky” Buchholz; siblings, Sharon Nielson of Cedar Springs, Joyce (Richard) Johnson of Stanton, and Lois Garvey of Greenville; one sister-in-law Pat Buchholz of Stanton; his special cats Blackie and Spotty; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Otto was preceded in death by his father Fred Robert Paul Buchholz, mother Mary Mae Crawford Buchholz (Edson) Conroy, one daughter Debra JoAnn Buchholz, two brothers Laverne Buchholz, and Alvin Buchholz, and two brother-in-law’s Thorval Nielsen, and James Garvey.
A Celebration of Otto’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 1:00 with visitation starting at noon at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Edmore, MI with Brother Richard Retzloff and Pastor E.J. Wolf officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Frost SDA Church in Stanton. Those wishing to make a contribution in Otto’s memory are asked to consider The Humane Society of Mid-Michigan located in Stanton.
